Amanda Serrano scores a unanimous decision victory over Sarah Mahfoud on ESPN+

It wasn’t the fight everyone wanted to see, but unified featherweight champion Amanda Serrano (43-2-1) was back in action against Sarah Mahfoud (11-1). Serving as the co-main event to Joe Joyce vs. Joseph Parker, Serrano dominated Mahfoud to score a unanimous decision victory (99-92, 97-93, 97-93) in Manchester, U.K.

From the very start of this one, you could clearly see that both women were on two completely different talent levels. Serrano started quickly in the first round by dictating the action with the right jab. She pressed the action, throwing from the front foot and using a ton of feints. Mahfoud looked as though she wasn’t ready for the pressure to come so soon in the fight.

In the second round, there was a clash of heads between the two women, which resulted in a small cut on the head of Mahfoud. The cut seemed to push Serrano as she applied more pressure by using the left jab and looping left hook. Mahfoud started to counter with a straight right hand, but just as she gained momentum, Serrano began to land some left hooks to the body, taking the wind out of her opponent.

Amanda Serrano dominated Sarah Mahfoud to remain the unified featherweight champion.

Although rounds five and six seemed as if Serrano was taking her foot off the gas, Mahfoud didn’t seem confident in her abilities and was taking some deep breaths at certain parts of the round. In rounds seven through ten, Serrano kept applying pressure and landing those left hooks with Mahfoud not having any answers.

Towards the end of the last round, Mahfoud boxed much better, but it was too little, too late. Serrano dominated the fight and once again showed why she is on that pound-for-pound list. The question now becomes, what does she do next? It seems like she will have to consult with her promoter Jake Paul to see if the rematch with Katie Taylor is on the horizon.
