No. 7 Kentucky falling at No. 14 Ole Miss will have a huge impact on the next college football rankings.

Expect for the next batch of college football rankings to be heavily impacted by the incredible game played down in Oxford between No. 7 Kentucky and No. 14 Ole Miss.

The Rebels more than held their own at Vaught-Hemingway, as Lane Kiffin and the boys improved to 5-0 on the season with a thrilling 22-19 victory over Mark Stoops’ squad. In time, this win might signify Ole Miss being the third best team in the SEC behind only No. 1 Georgia and No. 2 Alabama. Regardless, beating Kentucky is a massive deal and should be celebrated big time.

With a few more windows left to be played on Saturday, the top 10 will look different on Sunday.

College Football Rankings: Projected AP Top 10 after Kentucky lost to Ole Miss

Here is what the top could look like once the latest AP Top 25 Poll is released Sunday afternoon.

  1. Georgia Bulldogs
  2. Alabama Crimson Tide
  3. Ohio State Buckeyes
  4. Clemson Tigers
  5. Michigan Wolverines
  6. USC Trojans
  7. Oklahoma State Cowboys
  8. Tennessee Volunteers
  9. Penn State Nittany Lions
  10. Ole Miss Rebels

Assuming this is the only upset of sorts happening in Week 5, it will impact the top 10, and potentially the top five. The top three should not change if Georgia beats Missouri, Alabama handles Arkansas and Ohio State dominates Rutgers. Should Clemson beat NC State, that might get the Tigers to No. 4 and have Michigan fall back a spot to No. 5 after its road win over Iowa.

USC is a bigger name than Oklahoma State, so the Trojans will probably hold serve at No. 6 if they beat Arizona State. However, the gap will be very close should the Pokes beat No. 16 Baylor in Waco. Style points matter a ton here. Tennessee is idle at No. 8, but could drop to No. 9 if Penn State blows the door off Northwestern. Ole Miss may have done just enough to crack the top 10…

The Rebels could be a top-10 team, but the Wildcats will find themselves ranked in the teens now.
