The New York Mets are headed back to the playoffs for the first time since 2016.

The New York Mets are returning to the playoffs for the first time since 2016 but they fell just short of having to miss the new Wild Card series.

Since they did not win the NL East, they will be the no. 4 seed in NL Wild Card series and they will be playing host to the San Diego Padres in the best-of-three series.

New York Mets playoff schedule

Since the Mets do not have a bye in the new Wild Card round, they will play their first playoff game on Friday Oct. 7. For the Wild Card series, all three games will be in New York as they will face the Padres and they will be played on Friday at 8:07 PM E.T., Saturday at 7:37 PM E.T., and Sunday at 7:37 PM E.T. (if needed).

Due to the lockout to start the season, the regular season schedule was altered slightly to accommodate all 162 games and the postseason is no different.

If the Mets make it to the NLDS and play in all five games of the series, they will play on Oct. 11, Oct. 12, Oct. 14, Oct. 15, and Oct. 16. It will still follow the 2-2-1 format but there will be no travel day between Games 4 and 5, as there was in previous years.

If they reach the NLCS, they would start play on Oct. 18 through Oct. 25, if they play all seven games. They would have a travel day between Games 2 and 3 but not between Games 5 and 6, unlike previous years.

If they make it to the World Series, the regular 2-3-2 schedule will stay the same and the travel days would as well (after Game 2 and after Game 5). The World Series starts on October 28 and would end no later than November 5.

How to watch the Mets on TV

For the Wild Card series, the Mets will on ESPN.

For the NLDS (if they make it), the Mets would be on FOX or FS1 for all of their games. For the NLCS (if they make it), they will also be on FOX or FS1. If the Mets make it to the World Series, then all of the games will be on FOX.
