Mets fans enraged at Francisco Lindor Gold Glove snub

New York Mets fans were not happy when they saw that Francisco Lindor was not named a finalist for the Gold Glove award.

The New York Mets had their first 100-win season since 1988, and made the postseason for the first time since 2016. Despite this, they did not win the NL East title, and were eliminated in three games by the San Diego Padres in the NL Wild Card Series. Even with the early end to their season, Mets fans could look forward to the year-end awards.

As it turns out, they are not exactly thrilled with the finalists for the Gold Glove awards. Rawlings announced the finalists for the Gold Glove award for each position. Surely, Francisco Lindor would be a finalist in the NL shortstop category, right?

That is a big nope. The finalists for the award were Dansby Swanson of the Atlanta Braves, Ha-Seong Kim of the San Diego Padres, and Miguel Rojas of the Miami Marlins.

Twitter users, not just Mets fans, were confused about the decision to leave Lindor off the finalists list.

The award is given to those who display “overall fielding excellence, and it is not an award based solely on fielding metrics and statistics,” per Rawlings.

When it comes to who is nominated and eventually named a finalist, a manager and six coaches of each team are given a vote. However, those managers and coaches can not vote for one of their players, and can only select players in their own league.

While Lindor did was not named a Gold Glove finalist, the Mets do have one player who is. That is catcher Tomas Nido, who will compete with Travis d’Arnaud of the Atlanta Braves and J.T. Realmuto of the Philadelphia Phillies.
