Three things we learned from Nate Diaz’s final UFC interview.

Nate Diaz came out on top and receives his well-deserved farewell by submitting Tony Ferguson via guillotine with 2:52 in the fourth round. Diaz spoke to the media following the win in what might be the final UFC interview of his career.

“I liked [the fight] because it was the finishing touch of my contract,” he told the media. “Yeah, I’m glad I got the job done. Mission complete, for sure.”

He also explained that he has no desire to fight for the UFC again.

“I have no plans on being back in the UFC. I have no plans on not being back in the UFC,” he said.

He is three things we learned from Diaz’s interview:

1. Nate Diaz respects Tony Ferguson

Diaz and Ferguson are game opponents and legends in UFC and MMA in general for their no-fear attitude and entertaining fighting style.

“Just respect,” Diaz said of his opponent. “He’s been around a long time fighting a lot of people, putting a lot of good performances, putting a lot of crazy fights, and took a lot of damage. People can act however the hell they want if they been done shit like that to me.”

2. Nate Diaz still wants to do the trilogy with Conor McGregor

Diaz and Conor McGregor have been toying with each for the last couple of years to complete their trilogy, but due to McGregor fighting for the lightweight title, pursuing boxing, and now dealing with a serious injury, there is uncertainty about where and when the trilogy could take place.

That gets more complicated with Diaz leaving the UFC.

But still, that’s a fight he wants.

“I would like to finish that, the trilogy for sure,” Diaz said.

Diaz is prepared to show how an MMA fighter is supposed to beat a boxer in a boxing ring, something he pointed out that McGregor failed to do when fighting Floyd Mayweather. One MMA fighter who has shown success in the sport of boxing has been Anderson Silva.

“That would not be a trilogy in boxing, that would be a number one,” Diaz said when asked if he would complete the trilogy with McGregor in the boxing ring. “We could do some of those too. I’m going to do what he tried to do and show him how to do it.”

3. NateDiaz thinks Khamzat Chimaev missed weight because he was scared to fight him

Diaz was originally scheduled to fight a mismatch that didn’t favor him against Khamzhat Chimaev but everything changed when Diaz made weight and Chimaev missed weight by 7.5 pounds.

“I was in the sauna on my last pound and I was like what the f**k,” he said. “I’m like whatever let me finish this up and we’ll talk about it. I was like whatever just let’s get to weigh in and tell me whatever is happening after and I’ll rehydrate. I figured this motherf****r scared, he got punked, got scared in the press conference. I knew that was going to happen. People don’t show up to spar me all the time.”

Diaz told the media that he didn’t think the UFC brass would just allow him to not fight, so he negotiated for more pay and a fight with Tony Ferguson, Li Jingliang, or Kevin Holland.

“I was like you got to pay me if you want to switch people on me in one f*****g day,” he said. “I just cut 15 pounds. They made me change my opponents. You have to give me more than you give any other champions in this whole organization. They were like ‘stupid we already give you that’. I want more than that then.”
