Look: Even Nick Saban is getting bloodied by the Iron Bowl

Nick Saban took a blow to the face during Alabama’s Iron Bowl meeting with Auburn and kept coaching with a bleeding cut on his face.

If you heard Nick Saban got bloodied up in the Iron Bowl, you might think his Alabama team was in danger of being upset.

That definitely wasn’t the case with Alabama holding a 42-14 lead in the third quarter of the rivalry game. But Saban was indeed bloodied. Just in the more literal sense.

The Crimson Tide head coach took a shoulder pad to the face at some point during the game and came away with a busted cheek. The cameras caught the blood on his face.

Per the CBS broadcast, Saban had some incidental contact with a player’s shoulder pad, which led to the cut and mark on his face.

Clearly, the blood wasn’t a detriment to Saban or his team. The coach just looked a bit tougher on the sidelines as his team ran away with a win.

Because of the loss to LSU, the Crimson Tide won’t be playing in the SEC Championship game. Alabama doesn’t have much hope of making the College Football Playoff without a title game appearance (though a bit of chaos could still get them in), so on Friday they were playing for pride and a more favorable bowl berth.

Bryce Young and company got the job done, taking a 35-14 lead into halftime. They scored three unanswered touchdowns after Auburn opened the game with a touchdown.
