The Texas Rangers swooped in to pick up former Mets ace Jacob deGrom with an absolutely massive contract for the 34-year-old.

Jacob deGrom is not coming back to New York. He’s heading to Texas instead.

The star pitcher agreed to a five-year contract with the Rangers on Friday, according to Jeff Passan.

Now one of the biggest free agents in MLB has a new home.

Jacob deGrom contract: Rangers land former Mets ace in landmark deal

“Right-hander Jacob deGrom has signed a five-year, $185 million contract with the Texas Rangers, sources tell ESPN. Physical is passed. Deal is done. Includes conditional sixth-year option that would take total deal to $222 million. Full no-trade clause. A massive haul,” Passan tweeted on Friday night.

deGrom spent nine seasons with the Mets. They are the only team he has suited up for in the majors. Along the way, he made it to four All-Star games with two NL Cy Young Awards under his belt. In his career, deGrom has maintained a 2.52 ERA with 82 wins.

However, he is coming off a frustrating 2022 season hampered by injury. He had to miss the start of the season, finally making his debut in August. He finished with a 5-4 record and an ERA of 3.08.

The Rangers will look forward to putting a healthy deGrom on the mound in 2023. The Mets will have to figure out what life looks like without him in their lineup.
