Arizona State vs. Oregon prediction and odds for Thursday, January 12

Bobby Hurley’s Arizona State Sun Devils might have gotten a little too into the Holiday spirit this year, which isn’t surprising with how much of a cheerful guy Hurley is.

The Sun Devils got blown out by San Francisco just before Christmas and then lost to their rival, Arizona on New Year’s Eve. In the New Year, they’ve been great again with wins over Washington State and Washington to get to 13-3.

Tonight they’ve got the 9-7 Oregon Ducks up in Eugene. Let’s take a look at the odds for this Pac 12 showdown.

Arizona State vs. Oregon prediction and pick

Have you ever heard the saying, styles make fights? Well this is an interesting matchup of different styles. Oregon has a ton of size between N’faly Dante, Quincy Guerrier in its starting front court and Kel’el Ware and Nate Bittle coming off the bench. That’s a ton of size to go against Arizona State’s four-guard lineups.

Hurley’s team is very stout defensively, but Arizona’s big-men killed them down low and Oregon will too.

The Sun Devils are 228th in defensive rebounding percentage and Oregon is 56th, more importantly the Ducks are 40th in offensive rebounding percentage. Their size will be a huge advantage at home tonight and I think it’ll be enough for them to pull the upset. They’re already the more efficient offensive team, 172 in the country compared to 184 and if they’re getting extra possessions from the offensive glass then it could be a long night for Hurley.

There’s a reason that the Ducks are favored against a team with a much better record.
