Who is Alabama offensive coordinator after Bill O’Brien departure?
By Josh Wilson
Bill O’Brien has accepted the New England Patriots’ offensive coordinator role. Who will step up for Alabama football?
Bill O’Brien, who stepped in as Alabama’s offensive coordinator last year as Steve Sarkisian left for a head coaching gig at Texas, is back in the NFL. He and the Patriots, where he worked from 2008-11, have reunited and answered the massive question about how they’ll turn around the offense.
But that leaves questions for Bama, who is also looking to reinstall their offense after missing out on the College Football Playoff for the first time since 2020 this year.
With Bill O’Brien out, who is next?
Who is Alabama football’s offensive coordinator after Bill O’Brien?
The short answer is for now, we don’t know for certain. We’ll keep you updated here once we do know for sure. But here are some initial ideas and areas worth speculating on:
One option that comes immediately to mind is Kliff Kingsbury. Kingsbury has darted to the island life but further reports indicate he doesn’t even know what direction he’s going in next. Maybe that means he could be persuaded?
The Tide could look internally. The most logical promotion is Holmon Wiggins who is an offensive assistant coach and wide receivers coach.
If not there, they should look to other proven OCs at smaller programs. Several are on our list here, but you’re looking at guys like Casey Woods at SMU.
