One of the Chicago Cubs top prospects, Brennen Davis, arrived at MLB Spring Training early in hopes of making a real impact in 2023.

Keith Law ranked Chicago as the tenth-best farm system in all of baseball thanks in part to the efforts of Jed Hoyer, and Cubs fans may finally see some of those big names this coming season. Brennen Davis, a 23-year-old outfielder, is one of those players.

Davis is recovering from an injury and reported to Arizona early. At Cubs camp, he hopes to establish himself as one of the core young outfielders on Chicago’s roster. Being at Spring Training a few weeks early can only help matters.

Cubs: Brennen Davis arrives at Spring Training early

Davis suffered a back injury last season, which likely played a role in him falling out of MLB Pipeline’s top-100 prospect rankings. Still, if he can recover fully, he remains on of the best young players in the Cubs system. Jordan Campbell of Cubbies Crib wrote as much on Wednesday:

"“There is no question that Davis’ back injury last season has led to him falling down prospect rankings but it would seem rather criminal to not mention him at all heading into the 2023 season. Perhaps the thinking of Kiley McDaniel, the ESPN insider that compiled the rankings, is that Davis needs to succeed at the Triple-A level.”"

His .213/.343/.381 Triple-A slash line suggests he may still have some time in the minors left to prove himself, which could be the smart move from a Cubs organization which preaches patience to its own fanbase. An easy explanation for Davis’ Triple-A struggles is the same back injury which plagued him this offseason, and was eventually fixed.

Hopefully, with some extra time in Arizona, the Chicago outfielder can get back to full strength.
