As Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes continues to prepare for the Super Bowl on Sunday, his head coach just gave the best possible injury update.

The best possible update would be that Patrick Mahomes’ ankle miraculously healed by itself, but Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid can only conjure up 13-second football miracles, not health-related ones.

Reid recently said that Mahomes, while not recovered to 100 percent strength, can do “just about everything in the playbook,” and Reid was so far pleased with the way the quarterback was moving at practice this week.

As Chiefs fans are well aware, Mahomes injured his ankle in the divisional round of the playoffs and hasn’t looked the same since.

Chiefs latest injury update on Patrick Mahomes will make fans giddy

The 2022 MVP favorite fought and clawed his way to the Super Bowl with some help from his athletic trainer and is expected to play on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles.

How much his ankle injury will affect his on-field play has yet to be seen, though if the past two postseason games are any indication, Mahomes will manage just fine.

The bigger questions surround Mahomes’ receiver room, which will be without Mecole Hardman but could feature a familiar face in dual-threat back Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Wideouts JuJu Smith-Schuster and Kadarius Toney, who are recovering from their respective minor injuries, are also on track to play in the Super Bowl.

Most NFL experts are still taking the Eagles to come out on top, but as long as the Chiefs have a somewhat healthy Patrick Mahomes in the lineup, there’s always a fighting chance.
