March Madness is the best part of college basketball and we’re looking at when the 2023 mens’s and women’s NCAA Tournaments start along with the NIT.

College basketball is great in itself, but there’s no better time of year than when March Madness rolls around. When the NCAA Tournament comes, you know where sports fans will be throughout the weekend as they watch teams try to become Cinderellas, try to etch their names in history, and most of all try to end up cutting down the nets.

It’s hard not to love March Madness, even if you aren’t the biggest college basketball fan in the world. And after football ends, fans start pining for the next big even, which is definitely the NCAA Tournament. So when does it start getting underway?

Let’s take a look at when March Madness starts for the 2023 NCAA Tournament, both on the men’s and women’s sides in addition to the NIT.

March Madness dates 2023: When does the men’s NCAA Tournament start?

Selection Sunday for the 2023 NCAA Tournament will be on March 12. That means that the First Four games will be played on Tuesday, March 14 and Wednesday, March 15 in Dayton, OH. The full First Round will then start on Thursday, March 16 with games being played through March 17 with 64 teams in the field.

Here is the full schedule for men’s March Madness in the 2023 tournament.

  • First Four: March 14-15
  • First Round: March 16-17
  • Second Round: March 18-19
  • Sweet 16: March 23-24
  • Elite Eight: March 25-26
  • Final Four: April 1
  • National Championship Game: April 3

March Madness dates 2023: When does the women’s NCAA Tournament start?

Selection Sunday for the 2023 women’s NCAA Tournament will also be on March 12. However, the tournament will begin one day after the men’s with the First Four games being played on Wednesday, March 15 and Thursday, March 16. The First Round will begin on Friday, March 17 with games being played on March 18 as well.

  • First Four: March 15-16
  • First Round: March 17-18
  • Second Round: March 19-20
  • Sweet 16: March 24-25
  • Elite Eight: March 26-27
  • Final Four: March 31
  • National Championship Game: April 2

March Madness dates 2023: When does the NIT start?

The field for the NIT, both the men’s and women’s tournaments, will be announced on Sunday, March 12 after the Selection Sunday shows. First round games for the men will be played on March 14 and 15 at campus sites with the tournament ongoing until the championship game on March 30.
