The Aaron Rodgers domino effect will have an incredible impact on the 2023 NFL offseason, but should we be asking Brandon Marshall for the answers?

Brandon Marshall’s cryptic Instagram post, in which he suggested that the Packers quarterback would retire from the NFL, caused a stir in league circles. Rodgers had just emerged from his darkness retreat at the time of the post. Did Marshall know something others don’t?

Marshall was merely insinuating that he thought Rodgers would hang up his cleats, it would appear. FanSided’s Cody Williams take on the matter sums it up pretty well:

"“With how long this entire process has been drawn out since the end of the Packers’ season in Week 18, if this is how Aaron Rodgers retiring got broken, it would be both endlessly hilarious and infuriating that we waited for the quarterback to say something only for a player who was never on the same team as Rodgers to break the news on social media.”"

Brandon Marshall: NFL GMs are contacting him about Aaron Rodgers

Marshall made it appear as though he was in the know, and NFL front offices wanted to figure out exactly what, if anything, he knew that they did not. A head start on Rodgers decision would give rival teams an edge up in their QB chase. The likes of Derek Carr and Jimmy Garoppolo are available on the free-agent market, and this draft class is loaded.

When asked about Rodgers, all Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst can do is guess, and hype up his potential replacement, Jordan Love. The former first-round pick out of Utah State has made real strides since last summer.

“We’re excited about him,” Gutekunst said, h/t ProFootballTalk. “I think I’ve expressed to a lot of people that he needs to play. That’s the next step in his progression. He needs to play. Jordan’s done a great job working hard, so he’s doing everything we’re asking.”

Love could receive all the playing time necessary as early as next season if Rodgers decides to hang up his cleats.
