The Yankees Opening Day roster will include Anthony Volpe after the shortstop prospect put in an impressive spring training performance.

Fans tracking Anthony Volpe’s progress at shortstop this spring hoped it would all lead to a spot on the Yankees Opening Day roster.

They just got their wish.

According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, Volpe has made the roster coming out of camp.

That was soon confirmed by the Yankees.

Volpe’s family were seen taking celebratory pictures with the shortstop on Sunday afternoon.

Volpe is just 21 years old but he’s considered one of the brightest prospects in baseball. His spring training showing certainly proved that.

In competition with Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Oswald Peraza for the shortstop spot, Volpe batted .314/.417/.647.

Fans were psyched about their future at shortstop getting his shot:

Yankees fans celebrate Anthony Volpe on Yankees Opening Day Roster

It’s easy to see why Yankees fans are so excited about Volpe. He’s the No. 5 overall prospect in MLB and he certainly looked ready for the show this spring.

The biggest question was whether New York wanted to see him to continue to develop in the minors.

However, it seems teams are now erring on the side of giving their top prospects a chance. The Cardinals just made the decision to put No. 4 overall prospect Jordan Walker on their Opening Day roster.

New York will open their season on Thursday, March 30 against the Giants. And it looks likely they’ll have Volpe starting at shortstop.

There could be additional fallout to this move, whether roster moves or even a major trade as the Yankees get their lineup set for the season.
