The results of Saturday’s qualifying determined the starting grid for tomorrow’s F1 race in Melbourne, Australia.

Tomorrow’s starting F1 grid is set after qualifying took place in Melbourne, Australia on Saturday. What started with a wet track after some weather earlier in the day cleared up nicely and created a great day of pushing for the best lap times for Sunday’s starting positions.

In the first round of eliminations, the track was still slightly damp and several quicker teams hesitated to get out on the track at the start to let some dry lines start to show. Quickly, Sergio Perez’s Saturday came to an end when a lockup took him into the gravel and his car out of qualifying. He didn’t get to set a lap time, so he’ll start in 20th and will have his work cut out for him.

Oscar Piastri had a disappointing qualifying performance on his home track, getting bounced out after the first qualifying session.

Williams secured its highest starting position of the year with Albon bringing the team into Q3 for the first time of the 2023 season.

Traffic on the ring kept cars like Piastri and Esteban Ocon from advancing to later qualifying rounds.

That theme continued in Q3 with cars trying to get out early with rain expected in the final few minutes of the final qualifying session.

Alpine and Haas both made it into the final qualifying session but could not get past their season-highest starting position at ninth and 10th, respectively, where they’ll start on Sunday at the Rolex Australian Grand Prix.

The final few minutes, as usual, included a flurry of final lap time submissions that favored Mercedes, securing their spot as the only team on both the first and second row.
