3 teams that need to go get Budda Baker, No. 1: Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles are a very logical landing spot for Baker. This is a team that went all-in on a run to the Super Bowl last season, and it nearly paid off if second half Patrick Mahomes magic didn’t happen in the big game.

This offseason, the team saw a big exodus of talent, especially on the defensive side of the line of scrimmage, even though they did manage to keep both of their top cornerbacks in James Bradberry and Darius Slay. Defensive tackle Javon Hargrave signed a lucrative deal with the San Francisco 49ers and linebacker T.J. Edwards joined the Chicago Bears. But, there’s also the fact that the eagles lost both of their top safeties on the depth chart.

C.J. Gardner-Johnson, their big acquisition before the start of the 2022 season, signed a one-year, $6.5 million deal with the Detroit Lions, while Marcus Epps joined the Las Vegas Raiders on a two-year, $12 million contract. Thus far, the team has Reed Blankenship and former Pittsburgh Steeler Terrell Edmunds as their starting safeties.

This Eagles team has over $19 million in cap space (per Spotrac) and two first-round picks at their disposal. While they do only have six picks in the NFL Draft, they can still make a big splash trade. After all, they did so in last year’s NFL Draft when acquiring wide receiver A.J. Brown from the Tennessee Titans, and that worked out tremendously for them. Could the Eagles make it two years in a row by acquiring Baker?
