Of course Phillies fans turned dollar hot dog night into a food fight, again

Apparently the first thought for Phillies fans when they get a hot dog for a dollar isn’t to enjoy the food but, rather, chuck the dogs across the stadium.

Raucous fans in Philadelphia are anything but a new concept. But when it comes to getting rowdy in the stadium, wasting food is where should draw the line. Don’t tell that to Phillies fans, though.

Tuesday night at Citizen’s Bank Park was “Dollar Dog” night in the stadium, meaning that hot dogs only cost $1. That’s an absolute steal, and it’s not the first time this season that the club has run the promotion in Philadelphia. It’s also not the first time that way more hot dogs than were expected were chucked throughout the stadium rather than being eaten.

With the Phillies garnering a lead over the visiting Blue Jays, the fans in attendance saw a wave starting in the crowd as the perfect guise to start throwing hot dogs aimlessly into the night and into other parts of the stadium — because sure.

Phillies fans throw hot dogs, again, on ‘Dollar Dog’ night in Philadelphia

This isn’t even a food fight. This is just outright hot-dog-hurling chaos in the City of Brotherly Love.

Granted, the fans in attendance were probably a bit more jazzed up than normal. It’s not been the start to the 2023 season that the Phillies were looking for as they came into Tuesday’s game at just 16-19. So to beat a quality Blue Jays team had the fans in attendance ready to celebrate. It’s just hard to understand how you get to throwing hot dogs in that calculation.

In any case, this isn’t the first time that the fans have started using “Dollar Dog” night as a chance to get cheap projectiles as we’ve seen this already multiple times this season.

Like mothers across the world used to say, though: If Phillies fans keep playing with their discounted food, they are going to go hungry. The club might soon be looking into a way to make that happen.
