Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp praised rookie quarterback Stetson Bennett IV while throwing shade at Matthew Stafford.

The Los Angeles Rams had the worst Super Bowl title defense in NFL history. After bringing home their second Lombardi Trophy, they went 5-12 in 2022. During that year, starting quarterback Matthew Stafford entered concussion protocol multiple times and suffered a spinal cord contusion. So, the team had to rely on quarterbacks John Wolford, Bryce Perkins, and Baker Mayfield.

This offseason, the Rams addressed the backup quarterback position by selecting Stetson Bennett IV, the back-to-back College Football Playoff National champion with the Georgia Bulldogs. He fits right in, as Stafford also played for Georgia.

During organized team activities on Tuesday, Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp gave his thoughts on Bennett, saying, “He’s definitely the most athletic quarterback from Georgia that we’ve got on our team.”

Bennett played for four seasons with the Bulldogs, but his past two seasons were notable.

In 2021, the Bulldogs were undefeated up until the SEC Championship Game, where they lost to the Alabama Crimson Tide. But they got their revenge in the CFP National Championship Game, winning 33-18. That year, Bennett threw for 2,862 yards, 29 touchdowns, and seven interceptions while running for 259 yards and a touchdown on 56 carries.

This past season, Bennett had quite the encore, throwing for 4,128 yards, 27 touchdowns, and seven interceptions, and running for 205 yards and 10 touchdowns. The Bulldogs steamrolled their way past the opposition, including the CFP Championship Game, when they defeated the TCU Horned Frogs 63-7. In that game, Bennett completed 18-of-25 pass attempts for four touchdowns, while taking three carries for 39 yards and two touchdowns. That game took place at SoFi Stadium, the home of the Rams.

The Rams selected Bennett with their fourth-round pick.

Bennett will back up Stafford, who head coach Sean McVay revealed would have no limitations entering the 2023 season. While Bennett has had success at the collegiate level, it will remain to be seen if that translates to the NFL. But, he has gotten the attention fro Kupp for his athleticism.
