I have a soft spot for pitchers who don’t get the credit they deserve.

Adam Wainwright is one of those pitchers, especially this season. It’s likely due to him being stuck on a completely average non-playoff team like the St. Louis Cardinals, but let’s give this old man some love!

The 40-year old is having one of the best seasons of his career. He enters tonight’s start against the Los Angeles Dodgers with a 2.91 ERA, which is slightly better than the 2.94 ERA he had in 2013 when he finished second in NL Cy Young voting to Clayton Kershaw.

His 2.91 ERA is good for 11th in Major League Baseball, but you don’t hear his name being thrown out there with the top pitchers. Other people may not be giving him respect, but I certainly will.

WynnBET has the Cardinals set as slight +110 home underdogs tonight, and the Dodgers will enter the game as -130 road favorites. The total for the game is set at 8.5.

Dodgers vs. Cardinals Prediction and Pick

I’ll be backing the Cardinals as underdogs tonight, but I’m going to be looking at a slightly different bet. Instead of the full game moneyline, I’m on the Cardinals to win on the First Five Inning moneyline.

It’s a popular type of bet among MLB bettors who want to eliminate the bullpen, which is exactly my goal with it tonight. The Dodgers rank third in bullpen ERA (3.18) and the Cardinals rank 19th (4.22), so I’m going to stick with the first five innings.

The Dodgers bats aren’t as hot in recent history as you may think. Los Angeles ranks 16th in OPS (.735) since Aug. 1, which is significantly lower than then St. Louis, which ranks seventh (.767).

Mitch White is set to get the start for the Dodgers, and he enters the game with a 3.49 ERA on the season. In his last three starts, he gave up 11 hits and seven runs in 11 innings.

Backing Wainwright and the Cardinals at home on the first five moneyline at +100 seems like a no brainer.
