The CFL season kicks off this Thursday night!

The opening game features an East vs. West battle between the Montreal Alouettes and the Calgary Stampeders. Both teams were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs in 2021, with the Alouettes losing to the Tiger-Cats and the Stampeders falling to the Roughriders.

With the NFL still a few months away, why not wager on some Canadian Football action?

Let's dive into the odds for the opening game, courtesy of WynnBET Sportsbook.

Alouettes vs. Stampeders Odds, Spread, and Total

Spread:

  • Alouettes +3.5 (-115)
  • Stampeders -3.5 (-105)

Moneyline:

  • Alouettes +140
  • Stampeders -165

Total:

  • 48 (Over -110/Under -110)

Alouettes vs. Stampeders Prediction and Pick

I absolutely love the Stampeders to cover the spread in this spot.

The Stampeders had a lackluster 2021 season, but their stats looked a lot better than their record. They rank third in the CFL in offensive yards per play, and ended the regular season on a hot streak. They went 6-1 in their last seven regular season games, and will carry that momentum into this season.

They tightened their defense this offseason by adding linebacker Cameron Judge. Their third-year running back, Ka'Deem Carey, will look to take another step forward this season and help take some pressure off of quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell.

Meanwhile, the Alouettes lost a significant amount of players in the offseason, and didn't do much to replace them. They'll be looking to their young players to step into bigger roles this season, which may be a good long term plan, but it's going to be a rough start to their season.

Pick: Stampeders -3.5
