The Los Angeles Angels look to further their claim as an American League contender against an AL West rival.

The Texas Rangers' expensive offseason centered around signing the likes of Corey Seager and Marcus Semien, as well as Monday's starter Jon Gray. The start has not gone as expected, with the Rangers sitting at 13-23 on the year. Now, they have their hands full with MVP candidate Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout as well as a rejuvenated Noah Syndergaard.

Here are the odds for Monday's matchup with odds courtesy of WynnBET Sportsbook:

Angels vs. Rangers Prediction and Pick

Syndergaard has been strong in his first season with the Angels. Despite seeing his strikeout rate dip down below 7 K's per 9 innings, he has showcased great command by limiting his walks (only 6 walks per 29.1 innings) and it has showed with a fantastic 2.45 ERA. While his FIP shows that he may be in line for some negative regression (3.38 Fielding Independent Pitching), Syndergaard has gotten on track to start 2022.

On the other side, Gray steps on the mound for the Rangers and it has been a struggle in his first season for the club. He has a 5.51 ERA in 4 starts this season, but his metrics look similar to they have over the past several seasons with the Rockies, but he has had some bad luck in the field. Looking at FIP once again, which is ERA without plays made in the field, Gray's mark is more than 1 run lower, meaning that he has been on the wrong side of some variance when the ball is put into play.

I don't trust this Rangers offense against a quality pitcher like Syndergaard who is adapting to his role of less of a power pitcher, but I also want to buy low on Gray, who is in line to get some better breaks on balls in play despite facing an elite lineup.

I'll take a stab at the under in a game where I like the pitching matchup.

LEAN: UNDER 8 (-110)
