Athletics vs. Rays Prediction and Odds for Thursday, April 14 (OAK and TB have Scored 34 Runs in Two Games )
By Matt De Saro
The expectations for the Oakland Athletics are very low to start the 2022 season. They are expected to finish with one of the worst records in the majors and in the basement of the AL West.
Despite this, they were able to plate 13 runs against the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 1 of this four-game set. It was the first, and only, loss for the Rays up until this point. But, Tampa Bay came back and beat Oakland on Tuesday night 9-8 in an extra-inning thriller.
The Rays are a far superior team but their pitching has been atrocious this week. Drew Rasmussen will try and buck that trend as the Rays’ starter for this showdown. The Athletics, meanwhile, will turn to Cole Irvin after a rough first start. Will either of these starters see much success, or will these two teams play another high-scoring affair?

Athletics vs. Rays Prediction and Pick
Irvin got banged around a bunch by the Phillies on Saturday. He coughed up four earned runs off of seven hits. Three of those hits left the ballpark and it took him 88 pitches to go 5 ⅓ innings. He will bring a 6.75 ERA and 1.50 WHIP into his second start on Thursday.
Rasmussen was slightly more successful in his four innings of work against the Baltimore Orioles. He allowed two runs on three hits with a home run. Rasmussen also struck out three while walking one. He got yanked after throwing 64 pitches. While it was a fine outing, the Orioles were awful and Rasmussen did not look great against them.
In the two games played so far in this series, Oakland and Tampa Bay have combined to score 34 total runs. With the lack of quality pitching tonight, I think another double-digit total is highly likely.
