There are very few things better than playoff baseball, and we have a win or go home matchup in Game 3 of the National League Wild Card Round between the New York Mets and San Diego Padres on Sunday night.

With this being a standalone game, the BetSided team has compiled some of their best bets for this matchup. If you’re looking for more information on how to bet this game, we have a game preview, probable pitchers breakdown and weather report as well for Game 3

Best MLB Bets for Padres vs. Mets Game 3

  • San Diego Padres First Five Innings Moneyline (+112)
  • Joe Musgrove OVER 4.5 Strikeouts (-112)
  • Francisco Lindor OVER 1.5 Total Bases (+135)

San Diego Padres First Five Innings Moneyline

Chris Bassitt has clearly been able to deliver punch outs against the Padres this season racking up 17 in 10.1 innings, but does he have enough to deliver a win for New York in this spot?

The Mets righty didn’t end the season as strong as they would have liked, as he posted two shaky outings against the Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves with two solid performances sandwiched in between those games.

After New York blew the division, the team is desperate to at least advance to face Los Angeles. Winning 100 games to get knocked out in the wild card round would simply be brutal.

That being said, I think Joe Musgrove gives the Padres a slight advantage on the mound here. He was one of the best pitchers ERA-wise all season long, and he has a 0.41 ERA in his last four outings.

The Padres bullpen doomed them on Saturday, so rather than back them for the full game, I’ll take San Diego on the moneyline in the first five innings with Musgrove on the bump.

Joe Musgrove OVER 4.5 Strikeouts (-112)

Joe Musgrove has been hot in the strikeout department lately, and I have no interest betting against him in that area today.

He's reached at least five strikeouts in five of his last seven starts, and his rate of 9.9 strikeouts per nine innings in September/October is the best strikeout rate for him of any month this season.

If the Padres want to win today, they'll need to keep Musgrove in the game as long as possible to avoid their shaky bullpen. The longer he's in, the better chance he has of hitting the over on this number. – Iain MacMillan

Francisco Lindor OVER 0.5 Total Bases (-175)

Francisco Lindor's faced off against Joe Musgrove plenty of times over the years, and the bulk of the time, he's had the Padres' right-hander's number.

Lifetime versus Musgrove, Lindor is 6-for-16 with four of his six hits going for extra bases (two 2Bs, two HRs). He's also coming off a two-hit game with a home run and a walk in a must-win game for the Mets last night.

Most books still have this heavily juiced at 0.5, but I also don't mind the 1.5 with plus-odds due to Lindor's ability to get extra base hits with a pitcher he's had sustained success against. -- Ben Heisler
