Blue Jays vs. Twins Prediction and Pick

Jose Berrios has finally turned things around for the Blue Jays and had a very solid month of July. A good Berrios might be the biggest deadline acquisition that the Blue Jays could have gotten. He made six starts in July and ended the month with a 3.00 ERA and a 3.02 expected fielding independent pitching. He struck out 10.79 batters per nine innings and only walked 1.75 per nine. It also wasn’t just a turn of BABIP luck as it was .319 in July compared to .306 in all his starts prior to July 1.

On the other side, Tyler Mahle has been good all year, he has just been stuck in Cincinnati. Mahle has an ERA of 4.40 and a 5-7 record, but his expected ERA is 3.20 and his expected slugging percentage is in the top 20% of the league. His walk percentage is still a bit higher than league average but other than that, Mahle has been a quality starting pitcher this season.

Berrios’ early season struggles and Mahle’s poor initial stats have pushed the total up to 8.5, but it should be around 8.0 or 7.5.

Pick: UNDER 8.5 (-105)
