Daily Dinger: Best Home Run Prop Bet Picks Today (Bryce Harper Pushes Phillies' Bats Back on Track)

A combined no-hitter is not an ideal scenario for picking players to hit home runs, and unfortunately for the BetSided team on Wednesday, we all took losses in our "Daily Dinger" contest.

With the final game of the World Series in Philadelphia tonight, let's look for a rebound performance and hit on a solid payday with an anytime home run pick featuring players on both the Astros and Phillies' rosters.

The conditions are more than ideal for early November baseball, and after back-to-back shutouts in Games 3 and 4, can we count on either team to both put up some runs via the long ball?

Best Anytime Home Run Picks for Astros-Phillies World Series Game 5

Bryce Harper

Chalky? Sure. Is it going to hit? More likely than anyone else, in my opinion.

Harper absolutely destroyed a baseball in Game 3, setting the tone for a Phillies blowout win over the Astros, and I think we have a similar matchup here with the typical breaking ball throwing Justin Verlander starting for Houston. 

Harper has a slugging percentage of .500 against breaking ball pitches this season and can crush Verlander, who has an ERA over 6.00 in his eight World Series starts, and will face a raucous Citizens Bank Park environment. - Reed Wallach

Kyle Tucker

Noah Syndergaard is getting the start for the Phillies in Game 5 of the World Series, so it’s time to take a look at someone who can hit right-handed pitchers. For that reason, I’m going to bet on Kyle Tucker to hit a long ball tonight.

Tucker’s slugging percentage increases from .456 against lefties, up to .491 against righties. He also has already hit two home runs in this game, when he went yards twice in Game 1’s 6-5 losing effort. I think he hits another tonight.  – Iain MacMillan

J.T. Realmuto

Realmuto got a hold of one the last time Justin Verlander started a ballgame, and while he didn’t hit off the likely AL Cy Young winner, he’s one of the few Phillies that match up quite well against him.

The small sample of at-bats don’t hold the evidence: 1-5 with a double and a strikeout in his career. But Realmuto has reverse splits vs. right-handed pitching, meaning unlike most right-handed hitters who fare better vs. left-handed pitchers, Realmuto does his best work vs. righties on the mound. Consequently, Verlander had much better numbers this season facing left-handers, with a higher K/9 of nearly 1.5, and allowing half as many HR/9 to lefties vs. righties.

It was a similar set of numbers that led me to Realmuto vs. Lance McCullers Jr in Game 3, and while he didn’t knock one out then, the same numbers apply vs. Verlander, who’s 0-6 with an 6.07 ERA in the World Series for his career. - Ben Heisler

Chas McCormick

Let’s try this again.

I picked McCormick to hit one last night because he’s already hit a few this postseason and his bat has been making contact. With Noah Syndergaard making the start, I like the play for McCormick with longer odds. Syndergaard gave up a home run his only postseason start this year.

Even though he isn’t expected to stay on the mound long, that just means McCormick will go against a bullpen that has given up six homers throughout these playoffs. – Donnavan Smoot

Jeremy Peña

You could take anyone on Houston tonight against Philadelphia Phillies starter Noah Syndergaard, and I wouldn’t bat an eye. 

Syndergaard will likely work as an opener in this game, but Philly’s bullpen leaves a lot to be desired as well compared to Houston’s. This season, Thor had a 3.94 ERA, allowing 14 homers in 25 games. He’s allowed one homer in 5.1 postseason innings this season. 

There is too much value on Pena, the ALCS MVP, to go yard here. Kyle Tucker (+500) and Yordan Alvarez (+320) are also solid picks, but 10/1 on Peña, who hit 22 homers in the regular season and three already this postseason is crazy.
