Giants vs. Mets Prediction and Odds for Wednesday, April 20 (Pitching Matchup Gives Multiple Bets Value)
By Joe Summers
Two of my favorite pitchers in the MLB square off today as the 9-3 New York Mets host the 7-4 San Francisco Giants at 7:10 PM EST in the third game of a four-game series.
After losing each of the first two matchups, the Giants will send Carlos Rodón to the mound today. He was phenomenal in 2021, amassing a 2.37 ERA over 132.2 innings, and has only surrendered a pair of runs over 12 innings so far in 2022.
New York will counter with Chris Bassitt, who has given up only one run in 12 innings this year. He's been even better than advertised after coming over from Oakland in the offseason. His worst ERA over the last four years was a 3.81, and he's as consistent a starter as there is in the big leagues.
Can the Giants offense get to Bassitt and salvage a win in the series or will the Mets pick up a fourth straight win?
Let's check out the odds from WynnBET to find some value in this Giants vs Mets matchup:
Giants vs Mets Odds, Run Line and Total
Run Line:
- Giants -1.5 (+140)
- Mets +1.5 (-170)
Moneyline:
- Giants: -120
- Mets: +110
Total:
- 6.5 (Over -120/Under +100)
Giants vs Mets Prediction and Pick
I'll be honest, I don't think I ever remember seeing a total at 6.5. But that should tell you how good these pitchers are and how much respect they garner across the industry. I mean, just look at
Rodón's profile:
Over his last seven starts dating back to last season, Rodón has a 1.80 era across 40 innings. Somehow, Bassitt has been even better. In his last eight starts, he's amassed a 1.38 ERA.
Those numbers are absolutely ridiculous, and while the Mets rank sixth in the MLB in OPS this year,
Rodón will have the league's best bullpen backing him up if things go awry.
The Giants have scored more than four runs just twice in their last 10 and I don't see them getting to Bassitt. A total of 6.5 does scare me a bit, but I love the first five innings under that WynnBET has made available. You can get under 3.5 total runs in the first five innings at -115 and that's my favorite play today.
But you can also grab the No Run First Inning at -155 and even though that's a steep price, it's well worth paying. Since 2019, the NRFI is 40-9 when Bassitt is a favorite, and it's 13-3 in Rodón's last 16 coming off a win.
I'm counting on both pitchers to continue their dominance and can't wait for the pitching duel that'll unfold today.
Pick: First Five Innings Under 3.5 Runs (-115) and First Inning Under 0.5 Runs (-155)
