I’m about one Kevin Durant pull-up three away from calling him the best player in the world. He is one of the most unstoppable players the league has ever seen and he is only getting harder to stop.

The Brooklyn Nets are the favorites to win the NBA title this year, and they will be powered by Durant’s greatness. After his playoff performance against the Milwaukee Bucks, Durant has a lot of momentum going into this season -- specifically to win MVP.

Durant moved into second place on the odds list, jumping Steph Curry and Joel Embiid. WynnBET moved his odds to +650, while Embiid and Curry are +700. Luka Doncic is the favorite at +350, but Durant has intriguing value.

Despite coming off an Achilles injury, Durant was spectacular last season. He averaged 26.9 points, 7.1 rebounds and 5.6 assists. He was making a case early in the season to win MVP, but injuries derailed his chances. Durant missed over half of the season, only playing in 35 games. If he can stay healthy at this point in his career, that will only boost his MVP case.

His biggest competition for MVP won’t be Doncic, though. It’s going to be James Harden and Kyrie Irving. When Durant was in Golden State, it was an unwritten rule that Curry and he were off limits in MVP voting because the team was so stacked. The Nets are in the same situation.

Harden and Irving bring so much firepower that Durant would have to play the best basketball anyone has ever seen to bring home the award. Harden himself was in the mix for MVP before he got hurt last year.

Those two are going to split the vote between themselves, which may ultimately cost Durant.

Either way, expect Durant, a.k.a. The Slim Reaper, to play at an MVP level this year.
