The Los Angeles Angels can’t win a start by anyone not-named Shohei Ohtani right now as they are looking to salvage their series with the Seattle Mariners on Sunday afternoon.
Los Angeles sends Jose Suarez (0-2, 5.00 ERA) to the mound against another lefty, Marco Gonzales (4-7, 3.33 ERA). The Mariners have won five in a row to jump the Angels in the NL West, and they are just 1.5 games behind the Texas Rangers for the No. 2 spot in the division.

Mariners vs. Angels Prediction and Pick
At first glance, it looks like Gonzales is the far superior pitcher, but his FIP (Fielding Independent Pitching) tells us that he’s been extremely lucky this season.
Gonzales has a FIP of 5.35 this season, over two points higher than his actual ERA.
Suarez isn’t going to pitch deep into games, as he’s failed to pitch more than five innings in a game all season long. That means you’re relying on an Angels’ bullpen that has a combined 4.03 ERA this year.
I think this is a spot where the Angels’ offense (outside of Mike Trout and Ohtani) actually contributes to a high-scoring affair on Sunday.
I don’t trust Gonzalez, who is very susceptible to the long ball (13 allowed in 14 starts this season) to keep hold down this lineup at home.
Lean: OVER 9.5 (-105)
