Marlins vs. Rockies Prediction and Odds for Tuesday, May 31 (Top Pitching Prospect Gets First Big League Win)
By Joe Summers
After a 7-1 loss yesterday to open the series, the 19-27 Miami Marlins have lost eight of their last 10. They hope to right the ship as they take on the 22-26 Colorado Rockies tonight at 8:40 PM EST.
Due to lingering injuries to their pitching staff, the Marlins send out top prospect Edward Cabrera for his first start of 2022. Cabrera struggled in a brief stint in the majors last year but is oozing with potential; possessing an incredible fastball and ability to strike out batters in bunches.
He takes on German Marquez of Colorado, who has really struggled after an impressive 2021. Marquez has a 1-5 record and 6.30 ERA through nine starts, but hopes to tap back into the promise he showed last year.
Can Cabrera delight in his 2022 debut and earn his first major league victory? Or will Marquez and Colorado extend Miami's losing streak?

Marlins vs Rockies Prediction and Pick
I'm pumped up for Edward Cabrera's 2022 debut. He looked shaky when called up in 2021, but refined his curveball in the offseason and the hard work seems to have paid off. Cabrera struck out 32 batters in 23.2 minor leagues and allowed two or fewer runs in five of his six starts.
He's got electric stuff. While it's a tall order to ask a kid to make his season debut at Coors Field, Cabrera takes on a middling Rockies lineup that ranks just 21st in OPS against right-handed pitchers this month. He's struggled with command, but seems to have improved his control in 2022 and Colorado takes walks at one of the lowest rates in the league.
When you put it all together, it's a solid matchup for Cabrera to earn his first victory. And thanks to German Marquez being his opponent, I think he will.
The Rockies are 1-6 in Marquez's last seven starts with every loss coming by at least three runs. He ranks in the sixth percentile in hard hit percentage and Miami's power-packed lineup should take advantage.
Jesus Sanchez just about took a ball out of the entire stadium yesterday, and he'll have ample opportunity to blast another today.
I love the value on the Marlins to notch a victory behind Cabrera and give Colorado their third loss in their last four as a favorite.
Pick: Marlins (+113)
