MLB Best Bets Today (Back Mariners at Mets, Michael Kopech vs. Yankees, and Ole' Adam Wainwright on Sunday Night)

St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Adam Wainwright continues to defy father time at age 40 with a 3.18 ERA so far in 2022.

It's a full slate of games in the Majors on Sunday, but with Game 7's abound in the NBA and NHL this afternoon and evening, some of today's matchups are going overlooked.

BetSided's Donnavan Smoot had an excellent week in our daily MLB best bets column, so I hope to step in and carry some momentum to make Sunday a little more of a fun day.

For today's three plays, I've got my eye on three underdogs on the board! The Seattle Mariners send ace Robbie Ray on the road vs. the Mets, Michael Kopech and the Chicago White Sox look to make it two straight vs. the New York Yankees, and 40-year old Adam Wainwright of the St. Louis Cardinals keeps laughing in the face of Father Time in the Sunday night game against the San Francisco Giants.

MLB Best Bets for Sunday, May 15

  • Mariners +125 @ Mets
  • White Sox +106 vs. Yankees
  • Cardinals +138 vs. Giants

Mariners +125 @ Mets

It's been a bit up and down for newly signed Mariners starter Robbie Ray following his 2021 AL Cy Young campaign a season ago, but as BetSided's Matt De Saro pointed out, he comes off perhaps his best start of the season vs. the Phillies his last time out.

Ray struck out 10, walking just two batters against a Phillies lineup that can kill you from both sides of the lineup.

Meanwhile, Carrasco's strikeout rate is just under 28% for the season. Is it a revelation? Or could regression start to come sooner rather than later. I'm betting on the latter and expect the Mariners' eighth-ranked offense in baseball to make life a little more difficult for Carrasco today.

White Sox +106 vs. Yankees

BetSided's Peter Dewey is backing the under 8 runs in today's series finale, as Chicago looks to close out the series with their second straight win. The last time Kopech took the hill, he was marvelous; going six innings of two-hit ball, striking out seven Cleveland Guardians. Unfortunately, the White Sox blew a six-run lead in the ninth inning as Kopech

Kopech has not allowed an earned run in four of his six appearances this year, and has only allowed three earned runs in 29 innings all season. Cortes has also been terrific, but the White Sox are amongst the best teams in baseball vs. left-handed pitching and they should be the ones favorited today, not New York.

Cardinals +138 vs. Giants

Via Tanner McGrath, much like the aforementioned White Sox, St. Louis has been a lefty-killer this season. The Cardinals have the highest wRC+ (wins created plus) vs. left-handers in baseball with an isolated power (ISO) above .200.

Giants starter Carlos Rodón has been dominant, striking out 13.6 batters per nine innings this year; the highest of his career, but we also need to give Adam Wainwright his shine as well.

At the ripe-old age of 40, he continues to baffle hitters, make quality pitchers and get out of jams. His ERA this season is 3.18, but his xERA is only 3.60; so there's no massive splits indicating he's lucked himself into outs this year.

St. Louis at home is being overlooked, and especially if Rodón doesn't go deep, there's a good opportunity for the Cardinals on the moneyline.
