The Houston Astros finished their 2022 campaign with the best record in the American League, as well as a World Series championship, and the oddsmakers still don't have them at the top of the list to bring it back in 2023.

Instead, it's the Los Angeles Dodgers, falling short in 2022 to their division rival San Diego Padres in the NLDS, but coming off a season where they won 111 ballgames, and outscored their opponents by 334 runs last year. Via Sam McQuillan, L.A. has now opened as the World Series favorite for the third consecutive season.

Oddsmakers are less bullish on Houston's 2022 World Series counterpart in the Philadelphia Phillies, putting them on the board at +1300 to return and capture the Fall Classic next year. The Phillies rank seventh on the board behind two different teams in their division in the Atlanta Braves (+800) and New York Mets (+1100).

Perhaps the most surprising top tier team is the Chicago White Sox, who enter next season right behind the NL Pennant winning Phillies at +1400. After opening last year as a massive favorite to win the AL Central, the White Sox finished 11 games back of the Cleveland Guardians with an 81-81 year, going just 37-44 at home. Now armed with a new manager in former Kansas City Royals bench coach Pedro Grifol, perhaps the books feel a bounce-back is inevitable with a talented, yet inconsistent squad on Chicago's south side.

Curious to know how every team stacks up in their quest to conquer next year's October?
