Sunday Night Baseball is in Los Angeles for the San Diego Padres-Los Angeles Dodgers matchup.

It’s going to be a hot day in L.A., with temperatures reaching the triple digits in the lead up to the game, which could lead to the ball flying out of Dodgers Stadium at night.

Caleb Ferguson (1-0, 1.85 ERA) will open for Ryan Pepiot on Sunday with Mike Clevinger (5-5, 3.59 ERA) on the mound for San Diego.

Do the Dodgers extend their lead in the NL West to 19 games? Or will the Padres pull out a win in primetime?

Even though Ferguson is starting, it’s almost more important to look at Pepiot’s numbers since he will pitch the bulk of the game for the Dodgers.

Pepiot has allowed three or fewer runs in all but one of his seven outings this season, and the Dodgers are 5-2 in the games he has pitched.

On the surface, it seems like Clevinger has the advantage, but he struggled against the Dodgers in early August, allowing five runs in 4.2 innings of work. Other than that start, Clevinger has seven starts with three or fewer runs allowed.

Despite that, this Dodgers lineup isn’t any old lineup. As long as Pepiot can get them through the middle innings, Los Angeles can hand this game to a bullpen that is No. 3 in ERA this season at 3.07.

I think there’s value in the Dodgers as shorter favorites than we’ve come to expect this season.
