Padres vs. Phillies Prediction and Odds for Wednesday May 18 (Bet Under in Blake Snell's Debut)
By Reed Wallach
The Padres rotation continues to grow stronger on Wednesday night.
San Diego starts Blake Snell, who makes his season debut after recovering from an abductor strain. He'll face the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens' Bank Park against 2021 NL Cy Young candidate Zack Wheeler.
Can Snell get off to a hot start against a tough opponent in the Phillies?
Here are the odds for Wednesday's matchup with odds courtesy of WynnBET Sportsbook:

Padres vs. Phillies Prediction and Pick
Snell is in line to make his first start of the year, but can he regain his elite form? He struggled in his first season with San Diego, posting a 4.20 ERA as his walk rate exploded up to nearly 5 batters per 9 innings. He actually allowed less hits and home runs per 9 innings than his final season with the Rays, but walks put him in trouble.
We'll see how long he is out there for, likely around 4 or 5 innings, but Snell may be a prime candidate for positive regression if he can find his control. He'll be facing a vaunted Phillies lineup that features the likes of Bryce Harper and Nick Castellanos, but the team doesn't draw walks at all. Philly is 24th in walk rate this season.
As for the other starter, Wheeler, he is starting to find his elite form. He had pitched back-to-back shutout outings before going 5.1 innings last time out, allowing 3 runs. So, we are looking at 19 innings and 3 runs allowed over his last 3 starts.
I expect Wheeler to keep it going against the Padres, who have been below average against righties this season and I'll take a stab at the under with the price shaded towards the over.
LEAN: UNDER 7.5 (+100)
