Rays vs. Angels Prediction and Odds for Wednesday, May 11 (Best Bets for Pitchers Duel with McClanahan vs. Ohtani)
By Reed Wallach
On the heels of a historic night, the Angels now turn to their historic ace.
The Angels no-hit the Rays on Tuesday night with Reid Detmers going the distance, the 12th in Angels history, and now will hand the ball to Shohei Ohtani to grab a win against emerging star Shane McClanahan.
How should we bet this near coin-flip between Los Angeles vs. Tampa Bay? Let's check out the odds from WynnBET Sportsbook:

Rays vs. Angels Prediction and Pick
This is as high level of a regular season matchup you could ask for with two of the top pitchers in the game going against the two best offenses in generating run scoring chances. These are the top two offenses in wRC+ which weights run scoring opportunities normalized across ballparks, but will face two elite arms.
Ohtani has a 3.08 ERA, but has a FIP of 1.54, meaning that he is pitching nearly twice as well as his numbers suggest, a product of poor variance in the field. He is punching out 14 batters per 9 innings, and is off of one of the best starts of his career, pitching seven shutout innings with 11 K's.
McClanahan is also off to a fantastic start, punching out a MLB-best 47 batters through 6 starts. The lefty has a 3.06 ERA and a similar FIP, but may take a step back against the Angels lineup that is top 5 in hitting against southpaws this season.
Again, this is a high level matchup, but I'm going to go with a contrarian over given the talent on the offense and also both bullpens sitting in the middle of the pack in terms of ERA.
LEAN: OVER 7 (-110)
