The American League wild card race is heating up!

After being 4.5 games back from the New York Yankees just a week ago, the Toronto Blue Jays have completely closed the gap and are now holders of the final spot in the AL postseason. The Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox are tied in the wild card spots, and the Yankees are one game behind. The Oakland Athletics and Seattle Mariners are still in the hunt, as they sit three games back from the Jays and Bo Sox.

If Toronto wants to hold on to that spot, it’ll need to find success in its upcoming series against the AL East-leading Tampa Bay Rays. The two teams are set to begin a three-game series in Toronto tonight.

If you like offense, the Blue Jays and Rays series will be must-watch television. The two teams have been the top offenses in baseball the past few months, as they rank first and second in OPS in the Majors dating back to July 1.

The Rays have scored the most runs in MLB during that stretch as well with 378 and the Blue Jays are second in that stat with 354. The next closest team is the Atlanta Braves with 324, which shows just how good these two offenses have been.

WynnBET has the Blue Jays set as +110 underdogs while the Rays are -130 home favorites. The total for the game is set at nine runs.

Blue Jays vs. Rays Prediction and Pick

It pains me to do this as a Blue Jays fan, but credit to me for being unbiased. The Rays are the bet to make tonight at -130. The number one reason why I can’t back the Blue Jays in this spot is their bullpen. The Jays rank 12th in MLB in bullpen ERA (3.99) while they face the Rays who rank second in bullpen ERA (3.26).

The bullpen has been the Blue Jays downfall all season, and I can’t justify betting on them when they face one of the best in the Majors.

Alek Manoah (3.71 ERA) gets the start for the Jays, but he got roughed up by the Rays the last time he faced them. He allowed three hits and two earned runs in only 3.2 innings in a start against them on July 9.

If you want to bet on the total, the over nine runs is the bet to make considering how hot these two offenses are, but the Rays at home with their stellar bullpen is a great bet at -130 on the moneyline.
