The more I think that the Washington Nationals can’t get any worse, the more they prove me wrong. They have just one win in each of their last six series and started this week off 0-2 against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

One of those series was against the Colorado Rockies and saw the Nats drop the final two games after winning the series opener 10-2. And that has been the story of this team. They flash some brilliance, they fall apart for a few days. When they win they do so convincingly. But those wins are too few and far between to make any positive impact on this team.

The Rockies aren’t faring much better as both teams are in last place in their respective divisions. I suppose the only positive I can take from the Rockies season as it pertains to this game is that they are 2-1 against the Nationals so far this year.

But, that series was back on May 3 and marked the last time that Colorado won back-to-back games.

Rockies vs. Nationals Prediction and Pick

First things first, this game has the potential to be a bloodbath. Both pitchers are having horrible seasons and offer little to no resistance to opposing lineups. The biggest offender of this has to be Patrick Corbin who I am honestly surprised is still getting started for the Nationals.

He enters this game with a perfect 0-7 record, 6.60 ERA, and 1.69 WHIP. He’s nothing if not consistent after surrendering five or more runs in four of his last nine starts. This will be the second time he faced Colorado after giving up three earned runs in eight innings earlier in the month.

It was one of his better games this year, but the Nationals still lost 5-2. Corbin was tagged for exactly five runs in both of his last two starts and looks destined for designation.

German Marquez is having a better year for Colorado, but it's a low bar to hurdle. Marquez at least has one win at 1-4 and an ERA under 6.50. But, he’s trending towards ending with worse numbers than Corbin. He’s given up three or more runs in all but one start and has a 6.65 ERA in May.

Basically, these two pitchers are horrendous right now and I think we see runners cross the plate early and often.

Pick: OVER 8 (-115)
