Rockies vs. Padres Game 1 Doubleheader Prediction and Odds for Saturday, June 11 (San Diego Set to Roll)
By Reed Wallach
Doubleheader anyone?
The Padres and Rockies play a Saturday doubleheader, starting with San Diego trotting out Mike Clevinger in the opening set against Rockies starter Ryan Feltner.
Feltner is getting his first extended run in the big leagues after pitching only 6 innings last season, but he may be in for a tough ask on the road against a stud pitcher in Clevinger. Here are the odds for Saturday afternoon's meeting:
Rockies vs. Padres Odds, Run Line, Total
Run Line:
- Rockies: +1.5 (-105)
- Padres: -1.5 (-115)
Moneyline:
- Rockies: +200
- Padres: -245
Total: 8 (Over -110/Under -110)
Rockies vs. Padres Prediction and Pick
Clevinger is still being stretched out, he is yet to pitch more than 5 innings, but has been effective in his four starts since Tommy John surgery. Even if he has a short start again on Saturday, the Padres bullpen should back him up quite nicely, the unit is just outside the top 10 in ERA as a unit and the Rockies are a poor hitting club away from Coors Field. Colorado has the fourth lowest OPS on the road this season.
Colorado will look to get a strong showing from Feltner, who may not have a strong ERA (5.85) but his underlying metrics give cause for optimism long term. He is striking out over 10 batters per 9 innings in a small sample (20 innings) and his FIP is at just 4 runs.
While the under seems to be worth some merit in the first of two on Saturday, I believe the Padres are going to put pressure on Feltner early and get to the second worst bullpen in baseball this year. It's too expensive to back the Padres on the moneyline, but they should take care of business and keep an already limited Rockies team down at PETCO Park.
I'm counting on the Friars to win something in the realm of 4-1 and take the first game on Saturday.
LEAN: Padres -1.5 (-115)
