Steph Curry Isn't Running Away With MVP as Much as You Think

Just a week ago, Steph Curry was far, far ahead in the MVP race. The Golden State Warriors were still the best team in the league and everything was good. Yet, Curry hasn’t looked otherworldly in the last week. While players are bound to go through their ups and downs throughout the season, other players are continuing to play lights out and are putting pressure on Curry and his MVP campaign.

The top two players doing such are Kevin Durant and LeBron James. Durant has splits of 29.7/7.7/5.7 while shooting 51.4%, and James has splits of 28.5/7.5/6.6 while shooting 52.3% from the field. Both are averaging more points, rebounds and have better shooting percentages. There is a lot more that goes into an MVP case than just numbers, but they have the prerequisites.

WynnBET has Durant’s odds to win MVP set at +225 and James’ at +4500. Curry is the favorite at +110.

Curry is coming off arguably his worst game of the season. He scored nine points on 3-of-17 shooting, but it wasn’t talked about as much because the Warriors were still able to pull out the win.

He doesn’t need to put up 40 points a night to be the MVP, but be weary betting on Curry right now. He has less value than ever and there are several other players making their case and closing the gap.

Maybe Curry is safe for a few more games though. Durant is about to have a lot of the pressure taken off his shoulders with Kyrie Irving’s return set to happen. James will still have the burden of carrying the Lakers, but the wins aren’t following at the rate he needs them to.

Either way, be careful betting on the favorite right now and keep your eyes open to other possibilities.
