The Syracuse Orange and Richmond Spiders will face off in a neutral site game on Monday night, with the Orange coming in as slight favorites.

The Spiders made the NCAA Tournament last season out of the Atlantic 10, and they returned their best player, forward Tyler Burton, this season. Burton is averaging 19.0 points per game through the Spiders’ first four games.

Richmond is just 2-2, but it has two one-possession losses to Wichita State and Charleston in the early going. Syracuse comes into this game at 2-1, losing by 12 to Colgate in its second game of the season and beating Lehigh and Northeastern.

How should we bet this matchup between two tourney hopefuls?

Syracuse vs. Richmond Prediction and Pick

Jim Boeheim’s group can really shoot the ball, ranking 41st in the country in 3-point percentage and 40th in adjusted offensive efficiency.

That could be problematic for Richmond, who ranks 226th in the country in 3-point shooting, but the Spiders make up for it on defense, ranking 22nd in the country in opponent effective field goal percentage.

Richmond is going to hang its hat on the defensive side of the floor and hope that Burton can carry the offense.

The lack of shooting is going to be problematic against Syracuse’s zone, but this is by far the best team the Orange will have played this season.

Both of Richmond’s losses were close games, and I think this one will be too, especially if the Spiders (14th in opponent 3-point percentage) can slow down the Orange from 3.
