I truly can’t believe that we’re already five weeks deep into the NFL season. It feels like it was just yesterday that we were preparing for the start of training camps and the preseason.

Teams have impressed, teams have disappointed, and lessons have been learned through the first chunk of the season.

Let’s take a look at the top lessons we learned as sports bettors from Week 5 of the NFL season. All odds listed are via WynnBET Sportsbook.

The Chiefs are No Longer the Best Team in the AFC

The AFC no longer goes through the Kansas City Chiefs. They’re now 2-3 on the season after losing to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night, and what’s even worse for us bettors, they’re 1-4 against the spread.

They’ve lost to the Ravens, Chargers, and Bills, and they barely scraped by the Browns in Week 1. This isn’t the same team that won the AFC in two straight seasons. A large part of it has been due to their defense, which ranks dead last in the NFL in several categories.

They’re allowing the most yards per play at 7.1 and they’ve also allowed the most points per game at 32.6. I don’t care if Patrick Mahomes is your quarterback, you can’t be the best team in the conference with the worst defense in the NFL.

Speaking of Mahomes, the star quarterback has already thrown six interceptions this season. That needs to change in a hurry if they want to return to the AFC Championship.

WynnBET now has the Bills as the betting favorites to win the AFC at +250 (bet $100 to profit $250).

The Raiders were Frauds All Along

It’s amazing how much of a difference a few weeks can make. The Raiders were 3-0, people were crowning Derek Carr an MVP candidate, and bettors thought Las Vegas was for real. Now, just two weeks later, the Raiders are 3-2, their odds to win the AFC West have fallen off a cliff, and head coach Jon Gruden has resigned due to offensive remarks in e-mails.

In Week 5, the Raiders fell to the Bears 20-9 despite entering the game as 5.5-point favorites. It looks like we were once again bamboozled to think that the Raiders were actually a good football team.

Who knows what the future holds for this team now. They’re 3.5-point underdogs in Denver against the Broncos in Week 6.

The Dolphins Might be the Worst Team in the NFL

Entering the season, everyone claimed that the Houston Texans, the Jacksonville Jaguars, or the Detroit Lions would be the worst team in the NFL. And sure, the Jaguars and Lions are still without a win, but the Dolphins might just be the worst team in the league.

They rank second last in yards per play at 4.4, second last in points per game at 15.8, and dead last in average scoring margin at -15.

In some sort of cruel and unusual punishment for NFL fans that live in England, they’ll be treated to a Dolphins vs Jaguars matchup a week after they had to watch a Falcons vs Jets game.

The Dolphins are, surprisingly, set as three-point favorites against the Jaguars in what will effectively be the game that will determine who the worst team in the NFL really is.
