The 2022 WNBA season is nearing, and WynnBET Sportsbook has released futures odds on the champion for the upcoming season.

The Connecticut Sun and reigning league MVP Jonquel Jones are atop the odds list at this point, but the bigger surprise is that last year's champion, the Chicago Sky, are outside the top five in the odds as they try to repeat in 2022.

Here’s a look at how the whole league stacks up:

Opening Odds to Win WNBA Championship

  • Connecticut Sun: +275
  • Las Vegas Aces: +350
  • Minnesota Lynx: +600
  • Seattle Storm: +600
  • Phoenix Mercury: +700
  • Chicago Sky: +1000
  • Washington Mystics: +2500
  • Dallas Wings: +3000
  • New York Liberty: +3000
  • Los Angeles Sparks: +6000
  • Atlanta Dream: +7500
  • Indiana Fever: +7500

Oddsmakers Still Buying Sun, Aces After Last Season’s Playoff Letdowns

The Suns and Las Vegas Aces finished with the top two seeds in the playoffs last season, but they were both knocked off in the semifinals by the No. 6 Sky and No. Phoenix Mercury respectively.

Both Phoenix and Chicago won two single elimination games prior to making the semis before eventually squaring off in the finals. Yet, oddsmakers still believe that the Aces and Sun, the two top teams in the opening odds, are still the teams to beat in the 2022 season.

New York Liberty Are a Sneaky Dark Horse Team

If you’re looking for a team that may be able to pull off an improbable run like the Sky did last season, the New York Liberty at +3000 odds could be a team worth watching.

The Liberty hired Sandy Brondello as their next head coach after she parted ways with the Mercury, and she could turn around a roster that already has a star in Sabrina Ionescu.

In her eight seasons with the Mercury, Brondello made the playoffs in each season and won a title in 2014. The Liberty finished in eight place last season with a 12-20 record, but they lost Natasha Howard, their second leading scorer, for 15 games due to a knee injury.
