Big Brother 23

SEE ALL TV
For the first time in U.S. Big Brother history, the show committed to a diverse cast with 50 percent people of color. On Day 1, an alliance was formed with the six cast members of African-American descent commiting to ensuring the show would have its first ever Black winner. What followed was The Cookout becoming arguably the greatest alliance in the show's history. They used great strategy and commitment to each other and their cause to ensure they made it to the final six with all of their members in place.

Xavier became the first Black winner of Big Brother US, while Tiffany won America's Favorite Player, a pair of historic moments.

Why we needed this fandom this year

Big Brother has been criticized for homogeneous casting basically since it first started airing. The show made a commitment to greater diversity for this season, and the result was a smart and interesting cast across the board. The members of The Cookout Alliance took it to the next level by banding together and ensuring the show would have its first Black winner. It was a long time coming, but it also opened the door for needed conversations about the importance of representation. Beyond that, the players who weren't in The Cookout Alliance were amazingly understanding and showed how to be strong allies, not just in a competitive sense.
