Why we needed this fandom this year

March 2020 was a month we'll remember forever. And perhaps no show captivated what those wild few weeks felt like as much as Drive to Survive. From the drivers' shock at the Australian Grand Prix's last minute suspension to the show's in-depth look at how teams had to tackle a sudden impromptu work stoppage, it's a wild car ride through an unprecedented year.

How this fandom is changing entertainment

When Formula One was bought by American owners in 2017, captivating a dormant and apathetic US audience became the top objective for growing the sport. They took a chance with Netflix a year later, and after three riveting seasons of docuseries Drive to Survive, a fandom has boomed stateside. The friends, family, and coworkers you'd least expect to be enthralled by motorsports are now waking up early Sunday mornings to shatter ESPN's F1 viewership numbers.
