Fear Street

SEE ALL Movies
Fear Street on Netflix was great fun for any fan of the horror genre. Releasing three interconnected movies set over different time periods (1994, 1978, 1666), Fear Street took advantage of trends popular with movie and TV audiences, including world-building, binge-watching, and nostalgia. Imagine if Avengers: End Game and Avengers: Infinity Wars had been released in back-to-back weeks or even months? The Fear Street series could be a trailblazing moment, changing the way movies are made and released.

How this fandom is changing entertainment

The golden age of TV and the adoption of streaming services have conditioned audiences to expect rich stories and abundant content on demand. By filming three movies at once and dropping them weekly, Fear Street showed that movies can get in on the bingeing game. The experiment could change the way movies are released.

What emotion defined this fandom this year?

Fear Street was a book series by R.L. Stine long before it ever hit Netflix. Many 30- and 40-somethings grew up reading Stine's Goosebumps and Fear Street books. The Fear Street trilogy was a fun way to put a new (and more violent) spin on a decades-old world of horror that's fan base has grown up.
