Though she's often overshadowed by her peers and friends like Julien Baker and Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus' new album, Home Video, is miraculous and the best of the lot.

Why we needed this fandom this year
There’s nothing so comforting as a friendly presence in the midst of suffering, and in trying times like these, Lucy Dacus has emerged as honest company for the journey. Over the course of three albums, Dacus has become known as a brilliant young songwriter with a deft lyrical touch, one whose words allow us to feel like we’re known and, even more, that we’re not alone. That’s especially true on her compelling new album, Home Video, a proper soundtrack for so much of what we’ve experienced in 2021.
What was the icon or totem for this fandom this year?
Lucy Dacus has kept impressive company over the years with Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker as friends, apt sonic comparisons, and even bandmates (in boygenius), but this year, the release of her latest work, Home Video, brought her into the forefront even among such esteemed colleagues. Armed with the same brilliant poetic approach as in her previous work, Dacus tightens up the melodies while remaining disarmingly honest about all things spiritual and sensual. It's a masterwork in an emerging catalog that already has us rapt and ready for more.
