New England Revolution

SEE ALL Soccer
The Revs are like the Buffalo Bills of Major League Soccer. They've been to the league final five times and lost each time. Ever the lovable underdogs, the Revs have always played in a too-large football stadium and had a crayon-drawn flag logo that is pure nineties nostalgia (until they recently announced a new logo). But this year, the team owners finally invested in quality players, under league legend manager Bruce Arena, and managed to string together the best record in league history, with 73 points on the season.

What emotion defined this fandom this year?

The emotion that defined this fandom this year was joy. I don't live in New England anymore but I still managed to catch a game this year when the Revs visited the nation's capital and took on DC United. That night, the Revs came back from a 1-0 deficit to win 3-2. Each time the team scored the smattering of Revs fans across the stadium erupted, sharing an amazing time from a distance through eye contact and cheering. It's been an incredible ride, and we're all hoping the team can break the finals curse in this year's playoffs.

Best fan moment of the year

Hopefully, the best fan moment is still to come, when the Revolution make the sixth time the charm and win that elusive first MLS Cup.
