It's been a bumpy start to the 2021-22 season for Mahomes and the Chiefs, but he started the year making his third-straight AFC championship game and his second-straight Super Bowl. Along the way, his signed rookie card sold for $4.3 million, and he became a part owner of the Royals and Sporting KC, immersing himself in the community.

What emotion defined this fandom this year?
Pride! After many years without a franchise player, Mahomes is someone Chiefs fans and football fans can appreciate — he is sincere, humble, philanthropic, and outstanding inside and outside the lines, a true leader on the field and in the community. His fans can be proud he represents the team and the city of Kansas City so well, and it is great to see one of our players in the national spotlight for his play and for his fun commercial campaigns as well.
How this fandom is changing sports
Mahomes is someone who can transcend team or sport loyalties. People can be a fan of Mahomes regardless of if they are a Chiefs fan because of how he comports himself and the fun he has in life, as a player, and as a national spokesperson for several brands. He has become one of the faces of the NFL, if not THE face!
