The White Lotus

White Lotus feels like a time capsule for society in the year 2021, in the way that it ruthlessly explores what divides us societally, generationally, and racially, all wrapped in a spellbinding and humorous murder mystery. In the era of George Floyd, social injustice, and a growing divide between the economic haves and have-nots, White Lotus brings all of these issues to the forefront, where the interactions of several families vacationing at a high-end Hawaiian resort blatantly show the impacts of those issues on an interpersonal level.

What we’ll remember about this fandom a decade from now

It will be tough to shake the courage that the writers, directors, and actors showed in highlighting some of our worst tendencies as a people, in a time when so many deny that white privilege or racial exploitation exist on a daily basis, even when vacationing in paradise. Besides, you'll be on the edge of your seat the entire season, captivated by the arc of the characters and how each of them navigate their own daily personal battles.

What was the icon or totem for this fandom this year?

The music. The score of this show might as well have been a member of the cast. There might not be a show in the history of television that used music as a storytelling tool as effectively as White Lotus.
