I'll be honest, heading into the 19th season of Grey's Anatomy, I began to question whether it might be time for ABC's medical drama to finally consider signing off the airwaves. Recent seasons have been a bit hit and miss, and then came the news that longtime lead Ellen Pompeo would only be appearing in a fraction of the season's episodes amid a surge of new faces being added to the cast. And then the season premiere arrived. The season 19 premiere was a return to the show's roots with a focus on a new intern class filled with characters from all walks of life with deep backstories and amazing chemistry! The episode truly felt like a return to the show's roots in the best way possible with the new intern class's arrival bringing callbacks to days of old in an episode that was filled with humor, yet also super emotional at times. This momentum has continued as the season has progressed with the new class of interns helping to bring a rebirth for the show, which hasn't forgotten its legacy players but rather is finding some amazing ways to use them in the season's stories. While there's no denying Pompeo's absence is going to leave a void, Grey's future is looking brighter than ever. 19 seasons in Grey's continues to defy the odds and its fans seem to show no signs of checking out of Grey Sloan Memorial anytime soon.
