Hacks

SEE ALL TV
Less than a year after the finale of season 1, Hacks returned with an absolute masterpiece. The show further explored the emotional center, the relationship between Deborah Vance and Ava, avoiding pitfalls and continuing to throw satisfying surprises at us. But the best part of season 2 was the way the world expanded, giving us more time with the supporting cast and more development for some of the best side characters on any show this season. Everyone on this show was capable of stealing a scene and the writers were generous enough to give everyone an opportunity to shine.

What emotion defined this fandom this year?

Catharsis. Hacks is one of the funniest shows on television but also deals with deep and difficult emotional content — aging, purpose, love, friendships, discrimination, trauma — as deftly as any other. The series offers repeatedly resolution that feels utterly authentic and satisfying without falling into the trap of trying to solve everything or emotionally shatter viewers just because it can.

What we’ll remember about this fandom a decade from now

Every scene with Kayla and Jimmy. Put them on the Funniest Character-Combo Mt. Rushmore with April and Andy from Parks and Rec, Nick and Jess from New Girl, and David and Alexis from Schitt's Creek.
